With this new album, the pianist from Istanbul, Büsra Kayikci, a new Warner Classics signing, fuses musical composition with architectural principles, creating emotional and sensory places. The artist explores how architecture (her former profession) and music share conceptual similarities, giving rise to emotional and evocative compositions that evolve from initial sketches. The tracks capture places and emotions, creating a refuge for inner peace. "'Places' is the follow-up to my solo piano album 'Eskizler (Sketches)', which was the result of my first compositions, studies written at the beginning of 2019. These musical experiences reminded me of the sketches I made in my work as an interior architect, at the start of a new project. I was deeply influenced by how these two disciplines - architecture and music - work with the same principles, one addressing the ear and the other the eye. It was therefore inevitable that I would follow an architect's process to write music. I designed my musical models using methods derived from architecture. With this new album, Places, I feel I have pushed these sketches a little further. I hear them evolving, in a way. Sometimes, I try to build a specific place I have in mind, a place I miss, but sometimes, it is simply an emotion. There are moments in life that make me think that places are also spaces where one takes refuge, and that one also takes refuge in one's emotions. These emotions become a shield, a roof that protects our inner peace."
