“Every work of art is situated in the imaginary,” wrote the painter Pierre Soulages. For the composer Edith Canat de Chizy, this is a fundamental principle that has guided her work since her very first pieces. Knowing the close links that unite painting and music, she has often confronted her work with the imagination of Whistler, Monet, Satël, or Turnet, more recently Pierre Soulages with Outrenoir (2020) for which she composes a piece for viola and orchestra. The four pieces recorded here converge towards the same theme that the composer summarizes with this line from Victor Hugo, “Everything is Light.”
