This fall, Bruce Springsteen’s “Nebraska” album will be explored with more context and depth than ever before, with the release of a five-disc box set containing numerous unreleased and previously unheard recordings. “Nebraska ’82: Expanded Edition” will be released on October 17 via Sony Music and will include the E Street Band’s legendary “Electric Nebraska” sessions and solo recordings from the era, along with a newly shot film performing the entirety of “Nebraska” and a 2025 remastered version of the original album. Together, they offer an unprecedented look into the sonic world of this unlikely lo-fi masterpiece that became a timeless Springsteen classic.
“Nebraska ’82: Expanded Edition” premieres today with a never-before-heard version of “Born in the U.S.A.” (originally written at the same time as “Nebraska”), featuring Springsteen accompanied by Max Weinberg and Garry Tallent, in a trio performance from late April 1982. “We dropped the keyboards and essentially played as a trio,” Springsteen recalls. “It was kind of punk rockabilly. We were trying to bring ‘Nebraska’ into the electric world.”
