Elemental Music, in collaboration with Universal Music Spain, presents the very first vinyl reissue of The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore, the fourth studio album by The Walker Brothers. Originally released in 1966 by Smash Records, The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore was the group's second American release, following their first American album Introducing the Walker Brothers (1965). This album was prepared by Smash Records (a subsidiary of Mercury and home to James Brown, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Frankie Valli, among others) to promote the group in the United States, where they had not yet achieved the same level of success as in Great Britain. Produced by Johnny Franz with the help of seasoned British arrangers like Ivor Raymonde (who also worked with Dusty Springfield) and Reg Guest, the album is filled with orchestrated ballads and soul-R&B oriented tracks, featuring a young Scott Walker both writing and singing (foreshadowing his successful solo career). The Walker Brothers were not really British and were not really brothers, and their real name was not Walker. They were Californians: Scott Engel (better known as Scott Walker), John Maus, and Gary Leeds, and they became huge stars in England at the height of the British Invasion. After moving to Great Britain in 1965, they had numerous albums and singles in the top 10, including the number 1 hits "Make It Easy on Yourself" and "The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine (Anymore)," both of which also made the top 20 in the United States. The Walker Brothers provided a unique counterpoint to the British Invasion by achieving much greater success in the UK than in their home country, at a time when the popularity of British groups like The Beatles dominated the American charts.
