Wewantsounds is pleased to reissue the cult album by Brion Gysin produced by Ramuntcho Matta in the early 80s. The highly influential Brion Gysin, who, along with his friend William Burroughs, was revered by David Bowie, Brian Jones, Laurie Anderson, and Genesis P-Orridge, is joined here by Ramuntcho – back after spending two years in New York – and the sharp talents of French post-punk, Yann Le Ker (Modern Guy) and Frédéric Cousseau (Suicide Romeo), as well as very special guests including Don Cherry, Elli Medeiros, Lizzy Mercier Descloux, Caroline Loeb, and Senegalese drummer Prosper Niang (Xalam). The result is a brilliant blend of New York funk, "fourth world" grooves, mixed with post-punk and dub, showcasing the creativity of Ramuntcho and the avant-garde style of Brion, who recites his poetry in his unique manner with memorable slogans like "Nicotine is Mean" or "Sham Pain, Should We Do It Again." This edition features two unreleased versions of "Kick" and three tracks making their vinyl debut. Junk is a unique time capsule of the best that was happening in Paris in the early 80s, led by the flamboyant personality of Brion Gysin and the captivating music of Ramuntcho Matta. The album is reissued on vinyl for the first time since 1985, remastered from the original tapes, and includes a 2-page color insert with new liner notes by Jason Weiss.
