Grammy Award-winning flutist Brandon Patrick George and pianist Bryan Wagorn present "The Deep Has Always Known Me," an album inspired by the myth of Ondine: her emergence from the depths, her experience of love, and her metamorphosis into human incarnation. This title, an original idea from the artists, reflects the mystery and emotional intensity that permeate the program. Developed since 2022 and drawing inspiration from one of the duo's first concerts after the pandemic, this project was born from the desire to create a meaningful work after a long period of separation, around the themes of love, loss, and solace. The romantic repertoire forms the foundation of the album, with works by Franz Schubert and Carl Reinecke exploring desire and devotion through literary narratives and soundscapes steeped in nature. The compositions of Lili Boulanger, Florence Price, and William Grant Still enrich this expressive journey with warmth, intimacy, and a great richness of colors. United by attentive listening and deep musical trust, George and Wagorn shape a recording that invites reflection, connection, and a discreet emotional depth.
