Grammy Award-winning flutist Brandon Patrick George and pianist Bryan Wagorn present The Deep Has Always Known Me, an album inspired by the myth of Undine: her emergence from the depths, her experience of love, and her metamorphosis into human form. This title, an original idea from the artists, reflects the mystery and emotional intensity that permeate the program. Developed since 2022 and drawing inspiration from one of the duo’s first concerts after the pandemic, this project was born from the desire to create a meaningful work after a long period of separation, around the themes of love, loss, and comfort. The Romantic repertoire forms the foundation of the album, with works by Franz Schubert and Carl Reinecke exploring longing and devotion through literary narratives and sound worlds imbued with nature. The compositions of Lili Boulanger, Florence Price, and William Grant Still enrich this expressive journey with warmth, intimacy, and a great wealth of color. United by attentive listening and deep musical trust, George and Wagorn shape a recording that invites reflection, connection, and a subtle emotional depth.
