Hotel Terminus

Description

Dutchman Erik Bosgraaf (“A mesmerizing recorder player,” The Guardian) is one of the most talented and versatile recorder players in the world. His talent is remarkable: this year in Dallas, he will perform Vivaldi’s recorder concertos under the direction of Jaap van Zweden; last year, he took part in a dance production by DJ DNA (ex-Urban Dance Squad) and premiered several contemporary works. He received the Dutch Music Prize (Nederlandse Muziekprijs) in his home country, the highest national distinction in his field. Bosgraaf’s compatriot, saxophonist Yuri Honing (“One of the most creative and daring saxophonists of our time,” The Times), defines jazz not as a style, but as a true language with infinite possibilities. His musical horizon ranges from projects with improviser Misha Mengelberg to performances with Lebanese singer Rima Khcheich, as well as collaborations with major jazz names such as Pat Metheny and Charlie Haden. On “Hotel Terminus,” Bosgraaf and Honing perform together for the first time within a six-piece electroacoustic group, made up of two guitars, a bass, drums, a recorder and a saxophone. Conceived as the “soundtrack to an upcoming film,” Bosgraaf and Honing develop an ever-surprising, inventive and imaginative panorama of dark post-rock and jazz influences, as well as lyrical moments: this album is aimed at the impartial listener who, inspired by the music, wishes to embark on an exciting journey of discovering their own listening experiences.
