In nocte consilium – the night brings counsel; poets find time for calm, astronomers have the long-awaited moment to observe the stars and planets... As for the mystics, they have spent entire nights seeking the enigmatic paths of divine presence. This program, constructed as a journey from dusk to dawn, guides us through the different nights recounted by composers of the 16th century: from hope to absence, from the sweetness of a romantic dream to the coldness of eternal night, not forgetting the clarity of the moon guiding lovers towards their reunion, the itinerary concludes in the light of the first rays of the sun. Janequin, Lassus, Palestrina, Guerrero, and their Franco-Flemish, Italian, and Spanish colleagues invite us to explore these nights that are sometimes dark and dreadful, sometimes starry, tranquil, and loving.
