You can find out with the very first reissue from Real Gone Music and Second Disc Records of the long-lost Halloween classic, Songs Our Mummy Learned Us! This one-of-a-kind and super-rare LP was created by voice artist Bob McFadden - better known as the voice of Frankenberry, the Thundercats' buddy Snarf, Cool McCool, and countless others - and the mysterious "Dor," also known as singer-songwriter (and successful American poet!) Rod McKuen. Rock 'n' roll and beat culture collided with horror head-on in this quirky album, with McFadden playing the role of a not-so-scary mummy and McKuen expressing a jaded beatnik in his most famous song, the new hit "The Mummy." According to McKuen, none other than Bill Haley's Comets played on the rock track! But that's not all. McFadden's mummy also put a new spin on "Shake, Rattle, and Roll" and "Hound Dog," while McKuen's original song "The Beat Generation" inspired Richard Hell's "Blank Generation." Among the other satirical targets of this delightfully spooky LP are exotica ("Noisy Village"), surf music ("Bingo," a riff on "Tequila" with McFadden as the bingo caller), and celebrity culture ("The Beverly Hills Telephone Directory Cha-Cha-Cha"). The original 1959 Brunswick album cover has been meticulously recreated for this new reissue, and an insert features new liner notes by Joe Marchese of The Second Disc.
