Time out of mind

Description

Never in a hurry, and rarely consistent, Dylan sits on the laurels of « Oh Mercy », records a disastrous follow-up album (« Under The Red Sky »), then releases two magnificent albums (« World Gone Wrong », « Good As I Been To You ») that no one notices, since they are made up solely of classics from the American folk repertoire. Then, Dylan is content to tour – this is his famous « Never Ending Tour » – throughout almost all of the 90s.
Aware of this certain decline, the wandering Jew takes up again the formulas that made « Oh Mercy » a success, and calls on the wizard Lanois once more. « Time Out Of Mind » is therefore his third great comeback (after those of « Blood On The Tracks » and « Oh Mercy »), and proves to be more rootsy and stripped-down than the most recent one. A sort of « Love & Theft Part I », in a way, with a big return of blues, country and rockabilly, that is to say the three American styles that marked the Bob of his apprenticeship years, that is to say well before his discovery of the folk boom. A very fine record.
