Another self portrait : the bootleg series volume 10

Description

On August 26, Columbia Records will release volume 10 of the Bootleg Series - Another Self Portrait (1969-1971) by Bob Dylan, thus offering a new perspective on one of his most controversial periods, showing that it was in fact one of the most creative and prolific of the artist’s career. With 35 rare recordings and unreleased tracks, Another Self Portrait (1969-1971) is the latest edition of the famous Bootleg Series, and will be available in a Standard 2-CD version and a Deluxe 4-CD box set. The unreleased recordings, demos and alternate takes featured on Another Self Portrait - drawn from the 1970 studio recording sessions that led to the release of the albums Self Portrait and New Morning - give us a new perspective on one of the most important periods of Dylan’s career. During the Self Portrait sessions, Dylan played a selection of songs, accompanied by a small group of musicians: mainly guitarist David Bromberg and keyboardist/guitarist Al Kooper, but also producer Bob Johnston, who handled adding the overdubs to the original tracks in Nashville. Another Self Portrait presents these original tracks in their purest form, without overdubs. Another Self Portrait reveals new aspects, notably in Dylan’s vocal genius, as the singer makes both traditional and contemporary Folk Music songs his own, as well as his own songs. Among all the tracks that make up Another Self Portrait, Dylan once again becomes the country singer of Nashville Skyline (“Country Pie” and “I Threw It All Away”), the performer of a more traditional folk (“Little Sadie,” “Pretty Saro”) who does not hesitate to sing songs by his contemporaries (“Annie’s Gonna Sing Her Song” by Tom Paxton or “Thirsty Boots” by Eric Andersen) before returning to play his own music (“Went to See the Gypsy,” “Sign on the Window”). The Bootleg Series, Vol. 10 - Another Self Portrait (1969-1971) will be available in a standard configuration with a 2-disc case, as well as in a Deluxe box set that will include, for the very first time, the recording of the historic concert given on the Isle of Wight on August 31, 1969. Presented in a slipcase, the Deluxe edition will also include the remastered version of the 1970 album Self Portrait, in its entirety but with the original sequencing, in addition to two bound booklets featuring the reviews written by Greil Marcus (author of the famous “What is this shit?” in Rolling Stone magazine in 1970). A vinyl version of The Bootleg Series, Vol. 10 - Another Self Portrait (1969-1971) will also be available, with the album’s 35 tracks on 3 LPs and a 12 x 12 booklet.
