While West Coast hip-hop is often reduced to a narrow set of sounds and styles, the reality of California rap has always been much broader. Nowhere is this more evident than in Los Angeles, where the iconic legacy of G-Funk coexists with a thriving independent scene that is pushing hip-hop in new directions. Few artists embody this intersection as naturally as Blu. Long inspired by the distinctive sounds of his hometown, while being deeply rooted in the lyricism and soul of L.A.'s underground, Blu bridges these two worlds with great ease. His new project, LA, is a refined synthesis of this artistic identity. It pays homage to the classic sounds of the West Coast while painting a nuanced portrait of life in the City of Angels. To bring this vision to life, Blu teamed up with Oakland producer Sndtrak, a member of the Soul Council production collective of 9th Wonder, known for his work with Larry June, Rapsody, and Smif-N-Wessun. By revisiting the vintage grooves of the West Coast through a contemporary approach, Sndtrak provides the perfect backdrop for Blu's incisive writing and deeply grounded storytelling. Featuring contributions from Volume 10, Thurz, MED, Iman Omari, Trizz, ICECOLDBISHOP, and many others, LA highlights the creative evolution of one of the most important and dynamic cities in the history of hip-hop.
