Blick Bassy will release a new album, ‘Madíbá’ on May 26, 2023 via InFiné. The fourth studio album by Bassy, ‘Madiba’, is sung in the Baasa language from Blick Bassy's native Cameroon, based in France. It follows the acclaimed 2019 album "1958" released by No Format (winner of the Grand Prix de la musique du monde from Sacem and the best African album from Songlines, which honored Cameroon’s efforts to overturn French colonial domination), a collaboration with Disclosure and the publication of Blick's award-winning first novel.
'Madíbá' brings together twelve songs in the form of fables, dedicated to the theme of water, in which Blick Bassy's high-pitched voice dominates, supported by delicate guitar, synthesizer, and understated brass arrangements. The tracks are diaphanous yet modernist songs that testify to a contemporary and poetic African identity at the crossroads of soul, folk, and electro.
