Black Market Brass is proud to present their third album Hox, on Colemine Records. It offers a new take on afrobeat that combines traditional grooves with intense, hypnotic, sci-fi sounds that reflect the myriad influences of the band across genres. Like their previous albums, the nine-member group recorded Hox live to tape. The sound and aesthetic of the analog recording process are important for this type of music. That’s why the album features several sections of heavily processed synths, rough glitches, fuzzed-out guitars, and a blazing percussion section that pays homage to the traditional drumming cultures of Nigeria and Ghana. Black Market Brass has pushed musical experimentation even further, but ultimately, they are still making music to dance to. Krautrock, free jazz, doom metal – the inspirations for Hox come from all musical backgrounds, but the sound is far from scattered. It’s a polished and innovative record that exceeds all expectations and keeps the listener captivated from start to finish.
