Musique symphonique Musique pour piano

Description

Marie Jaëll is undoubtedly the most accomplished expression of the 19th-century woman musician. Despite her provincial origins and the strong social constraints imposed on artists of her sex, she managed to be accepted as a virtuoso, composer, and teacher. The support of her husband - the Austrian pianist Alfred Jaëll - was largely responsible for the success of her first piano works, but it was alone, armed with her talent and perseverance, that she faced in the second half of her life the Parisian turmoil in which she was one of the singular figures. While her teaching method is still taught today in various countries, interest in her music is only just beginning, with much of it preserved at the Bibliothèque nationale et universitaire de Strasbourg. This book-disc thus reveals ambitious symphonic works and an entire side of her piano music.
