It’s the fifth anniversary of Billy Woods & Kenny Segal’s classic album, Hiding Places. As time passes, and more of the duo’s work enters the canon, it’s easy to forget how unlikely a pairing the two were back in 2019. Woods and Segal each had over a decade of career under their belts, but neither had collaborated so deeply with artists outside of their coastal scenes. Then Hiding Places arrived and changed the trajectories of both artists, and of Backwoodz Studioz. Hiding Places drops both artists into the heart of a labyrinth. Segal’s lush soundscapes have a new dimension, while Woods' writing is, paradoxically, at its most direct. The album benefits from the contributions of both artists’ many collaborators, with appearances from ELUCID, Self-Jupiter, and MOTHERMARY. This anniversary reissue is the first to feature the iconic house artwork.
