Originally scheduled for release on March 13th Billy Preston's fifth studio album was released in September 1970 on Apple Records. Produced by Preston and George Harrison, the album contained the first published versions of Harrison's songs "All Things Must Pass" and "My Sweet Lord," released two months before Harrison's own recordings on his iconic triple album. *Encouraging Words* has since been hailed by some critics as one of the best "non-Beatles" releases from the Apple catalogue.
