Bill Beau was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, but grew up in the Western provinces and completed his high school education in Edmonton, Alberta. It was during this time that he became captivated by boogie-woogie through the radio, particularly by the performances of Meade Lux Lewis, Pete Johnson, and Albert Ammons, at the height of the music's popularity. It was also during his high school years that Bill landed his first gig. He played piano and worked with Wilf Harper, a renowned local guitarist. Beau played on weekends and, during the week, held various jobs: clothing salesman, store employee, refinery worker, gas station attendant, and freight controller. He traveled all over Canada before finally settling in Los Angeles, California. In 1958, his passion for music drove him to dedicate all his energy to honing his talent, and he decided to permanently establish himself in Los Angeles. There, he initially worked as a vibraphonist, performing with stars such as Ben Webster, Rex Stewart, Pete Fountain, and Stuff Smith. One day, when his regular organist canceled, Beau found himself at the Hammond organ. He then formed his own group, and the trio secured a residency at the Blue Port Lounge. The other two members of the trio are Jo Stafford on guitar, Lorenzo Green on drums, and the charming and petite singer of the group, Chi Chi. "Live at the Blueport Lounge" by the Bill Beau Trio is a pure masterpiece of mod-soul-jazz! A true treasure, rare and precious – except on Mo-Jazz!
