With Les Myosotis, their first album, Bigger has built a temple, a lair with strange and imposing architecture. One could almost believe it to be raw art. Upon entering, it is abundant, baroque. There are a multitude of details to observe. There are big noisy waves, corridors to cross, mountains to climb, ghosts and freaks. There are large murals, figurines, beauty, and gloom. In any case, something is constructed there. At the start, there are two young men, one Irish, Kevin Twomey, the other French, Damien Félix. Fire and ice, the first bubbling and swirling, the second thoughtful and tinkering. The hyphen, you see it coming: a consuming passion for THE song, THE melody, the endless quest for ultimate songwriting. The two elements complement each other, attract each other, sometimes oppose each other for a common goal, to create beautiful work, to evoke emotion. The ambition is great, and it takes time to sharpen one's tools. Troops are also needed to give it substance. From two, they grow to five, with Ben Muller on keyboards, Antoine Passard on drums, and Mike Prenat on bass. The first shows begin, and the band quickly makes a name for itself, racking up dates and getting booked at the Transmusicales de Rennes, the Eurockéennes de Belfort, and the Bataclan. For their first album, the five aim high and seek to broaden their horizons. More European than ever, the Franco-Irish have navigated between Germany, England, and France to record their first album, under the guidance of Manchester producer Jim Spencer (Johnny Marr, The Charlatans, Liam Gallagher, New Order...). Quarantined at Castle Studios in Dresden, they then crossed the Channel and joined Manchester, right in the midst of Brexit and full lockdown, to lay down the vocals. This shows the band's determination to sign, against all odds, a rich and ambitious album. - - The songwriting of BIGGER is refining, gaining even more depth. Elegant, refined, sometimes brutal, the sound is ample, serving a classy alternative pop. Keen to create its unique identity and broaden its rock horizons, BIGGER enriches its universe with Eastern sounds, Latin percussion, and borrows from classical music with its brass, strings, and harpsichord in epic tracks, where Irish swagger runs rampant. This blend of Gainsbourgian pop, Anglo-Saxon culture, rock energy, raw language, and free poetry works wonderfully and promises intense and feverish concerts. On stage, the energy is there, unbridled. The band enjoys alternating moments of calm with sudden sonic roars. As a true preacher man, Kevin Twomey rallies the audience, sometimes pushing them. Everyone sings, the choruses are powerful. Seeking fire behind every note, Bigger wants to take its audience along, sharing the words and intense emotions injected into the closed space of Castle Studio. The stage is the moment to release all of that, to give oneself fully. Always ambitious, Bigger is also preparing for autumn 2022 a collaboration with Larry Mullins (Iggy Pop and The Stooges, Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds) and the conservatory of Besançon: 17 musicians together to make the Temple resonate!
