Sistahs

Description

Formed in 2013 within the London DIY scene, Big Joanie was born from the desire of Stephanie Phillips, Estella Adeyeri, and Chardine Taylor-Stone to create a space where Black female musicians can express themselves freely through punk. Sistahs, their debut album, embodies this approach in eleven songs that blend post-punk, riot grrrl, harmonies inherited from 1960s girl groups, and abrasive guitars. Recorded with producer Margo Broom (Goat Girl, The Psychotic Monks), the album draws from both the personal experiences of the musicians and themes of solidarity, friendship, and collective resistance.
