This compilation, BETTY HARRIS - The Lost Queen Of New Orleans Soul, brings together Betty Harris's incredible and prolific soul/funk single releases between 1964 and 1969, under the direction of legendary songwriter, musician and producer Allen Toussaint: a collection that captures the heart and soul of New Orleans during this period. Betty Harris's powerful and extremely expressive voice found the perfect accompaniment in the New Orleans musicians Toussaint assembled behind her, who, by the time of the legendary "There's A Break In The Road," became known as The Meters. With Allen Toussaint's extraordinary songwriting abilities, combined with the powerful and emotional singer and the groove of The Meters, you'll discover an unbeatable combination here. All these singles compiled here were released on the New Orleans label Sansu (label of Allen Toussaint and his partner Marshal Sehorn), distributed throughout the city but only limited to a few copies. As a result, Betty Harris's music did not achieve the commercial success of other New Orleans artists like Lee Dorsey or The Meters. She therefore retired from the music business at the end of the 60s.
