Philip Glass has become an iconic figure in American music. His works are often inspired by his collaborations with other great musicians, and the proposal of "American Four Seasons" by violinist Robert McDuffie, in response to Vivaldi's famous masterpiece, resulted in a concerto that evokes the baroque spirit of the violin from the early 18th century. The range of atmospheres present in this concerto invites listeners to decide for themselves which season the music evokes. Glass's Violin Sonata hints at the ghosts of Brahms, Fauré, and Franck. Award-winning violinist Piotr Plawner will say that "the meditative quality of this piece brings a unique energy."
