The new recording from the Jazz at Berlin Philharmonic series captures a moment rich in both history and renewal, marking the fiftieth concert of the series while paying tribute to Siggi Loch's first success as a producer with George Gruntz's pioneering Jazz Meets Baroque in 1964. Sixty years later, pianist Bernd Lhotzky revisits and reinvents this foundational dialogue between eras, drawing a parallel between the vision of Esperanto as a universal language and the common expressive language of baroque and jazz. The two traditions do not oppose each other but complement one another: jazz infuses baroque with rhythmic vitality and freedom of improvisation, while baroque brings to jazz its structural depth and ornamental richness. The stage opens with a Germano-French ensemble: two wind musicians of French origin and the three members of a German rhythm section, united in a shared energy, simply happy to play together.
