The young mezzo-soprano Adèle Charvet joins Alpha for several projects. In 2017, she received the Prize from the Verbier Festival Academy... Already noticed on opera stages, Adèle Charvet is also passionate about the repertoire of melody. For her first album, she has envisioned a very personal program, also born from a musical and friendly encounter with pianist Susan Manoff. Both drew from their New York childhoods: “Long Time Ago weaves the threads of our lives,” says Susan. Adèle continues: “The musical journey is vast, from the great repertoire of American music: Barber, Copland, Ives, to cabaret songs: Heggie, Bolcom, and the transition to England: Britten, Vaughan Williams... Amor by Jake Heggie describes, for example, the journey of a falsely naive erotomaniac crossing the city. The police, the ice cream vendor, the gospel choir, all cry out at her sight: ‘AMOR!’; Solitary Hotel by Samuel Barber is like a Hopper painting in music, At the River by Aaron Copland invites the pilgrims to gather: ‘Yes, we’ll gather at the river’… The program unfolds like a wheel, a cycle that traverses the cardinal points of a life.”
