Although the guitar music of Benjamin Britten represents only a very small part of his work, it contains all the dramatic genius of his larger works. Britten's interest in the guitar comes from his friendship with the famous English virtuoso Julian Bream (1933-2020), to whom his works for guitar are dedicated. The richness and dramatic strength of the guitar scores reflect the composer's exceptional ability to distill the essence of an instrument that was completely unknown to him until a few years earlier. He treats the voice and the guitar as two virtuosic solo instruments whose dialogue serves the dramatic arc of the text. To convey this beauty, it is Marie Chabbey on guitar and Sophie Graf, soprano.
