« Deathstar Rising » is considered one of the standout chapters in the discography of BEFORE THE DAWN; it is an album characterized by renewed energy, increased confidence, and powerful dynamics within the band. During its creation, the band was performing multiple concerts in Finland and Europe, an activity that directly influenced the motivation and dynamics behind the album. The arrival of drummer Atte Palokangas (later known for his work with Beast InBlack) played a crucial role in the creative qualitative leap that « Deathstar Rising » represents. His powerful and precise playing elevated the band's sound to a higher level and was essential in shaping the album's identity. The writing and recording process also took place in an exceptionally smooth and positive atmosphere. With tours already scheduled in Europe and Asia, as well as a confirmed licensing agreement with Nuclear Blast for the European territory, the band approached the studio with great confidence and a lot of optimism. Far from any pressure, it was a feeling of enthusiastic anticipation and a shared, powerful will that prevailed. Both musically and emotionally, « Deathstar Rising » marked a significant advancement compared to previous releases from BEFORE THE DAWN. The album revealed a band increasingly asserting its identity - both in composition and execution - with more strength, clarity, and ambition. More than a decade later, the album remains highly appreciated by fans and is still a staple of the band's current stage history during the « Second Coming » era of BEFORE THE DAWN. Some tracks still hold prominent places in the setlist. Meanwhile, the album had been unavailable on vinyl - and the original CD version sold out - for many years; its very first vinyl edition, scheduled for August 21, 2026, with Reaper Entertainment, is therefore a highly anticipated event. For Tuomas Saukkonen, revisiting this time is both stimulating and rewarding: it reminds him of a period when everything moved forward with clarity and dynamism, as well as an album that still holds a special place in the band's history.
