Chopin-Beethoven: Sonatas (Marche Funèbre, Hammerklavier)

Description

Beatrice Rana, described by Gramophone as a pianist "of fire and poetry, of imagination and originality, of temperament and charm, all set against a backdrop of intrepid technical skill," today delivers an opus conceived during the pandemic and the periods of solitude it engendered. In this new album, she performs two monumental sonatas: Beethoven's "Hammerklavier", Op. 106 and Chopin's "Funeral March", Op. 35. The choice to bring together these two works, although very different, stems from their experimental character and their difficulty of execution. "These two sonatas in B-flat major transcend the human condition in very different ways, but not entirely different... They both have a lot to do with the fear of death and solitude. Each finds a solution in a different way."
