The foundational debut album by the Be Good Tanyas, Blue Horse, is returning in a vinyl edition for its 25th anniversary via Birthday Cake Records. Recorded in Vancouver in 2000 on a nearly nonexistent budget, the trio composed of Frazey Ford, Trish Klein, and Samantha Parton transformed old-time, folk, and country-blues into something strange, intimate, and entirely personal, moving from an independent release and CBC radio to an international audience. Blue Horse made the group a phenomenon in the UK: 83 weeks on the UK Country Artists Albums Chart (peaking at number 3), a performance at the Glastonbury Acoustic Stage, and an appearance on Later... with Jools Holland. "The Littlest Birds" became a generational signature, notably due to its placement in Weeds, and the group's music has since resonated in Breaking Bad, The L Word, and Hell on Wheels. A quarter of a century later, it remains a living catalog, not a nostalgic artifact: the band has around 510,000 monthly listeners on Spotify, and Frazey Ford's acclaimed solo career continues to draw new listeners back to their roots. Pressed from new vinyl masters prepared in 2026, this single LP edition brings Blue Horse back to vinyl for the first time in 15 years.
