Over a period spanning nearly ten years, Yevgeny Sudbin recorded works for piano and orchestra by Sergei Rachmaninoff. This musical journey began in the United States in 2008 with the Fourth Piano Concerto recorded with the North Carolina Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Grant Llewellyn, and was considered by Classic FM magazine as a "magnificent recording." Sudbin continued in Asia alongside the Singapore Symphony Orchestra and conductor Lan Shui with the Paganini Variations and Piano Concerto No. 1. Critics highlighted the "transcendental virtuosity and kaleidoscopic colors" found in the soloist (BBC Music Magazine) and identified in the pianist's playing a "depth, subtlety, and richness of sound, as well as a lyrical sensitivity" (Gramophone). Sudbin's Rachmaninoff cycle concludes here with the two most beloved concertos - Concertos No. 2 in C minor and No. 3 in D minor. They were recorded in London, where Yevgeny Sudbin has resided since 1997. To interpret these monumental works, he is joined here by the BBC Symphony Orchestra and its conductor Sakari Oramo.
