From the outset, the collaboration between Thomas Søndergård and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales has fostered a special relationship with the music of Sibelius, resulting in three albums. In 2017, their interpretation of Symphonies No. 2 and 7 at the BBC Proms was widely praised by critics, who described the performance as "radiant," "masterful," and truly, truly beautiful. Before this first recording, Søndergård did not hide his enthusiasm: "I am looking forward to one thing, rediscovering Sibelius with my new orchestra." Symphony No. 2 marks a turning point in the composer's journey and remains one of his most popular works. As for Symphony No. 7, it is famous for its unique movement, its deeply original form, its subtle handling of tempos, and its distinctive tonal approach. It is considered the greatest achievement of its composer.
