Genie The Expanded Edition
Description
The group BB & Q Band, also known as Brooklyn, Bronx & Queens Band, was born from the collaboration between musical geniuses Jacques Fred Petrus and Mauro Malavasi. Petrus, originally from Guadeloupe in the French West Indies, left Paris for Milan, where he met Malavasi, an Italian music student. Together, they founded a production company specializing in disco and launched several studio projects, including Macho, Revanche, and others heavily inspired by the early days of disco. Their biggest success is the formation of the group Change, which brought together Italian musicians Davide Romani and Paolo Gianolio with American singers like Luther Vandross and Jocelyn Brown. Their next project, BB & Q Band, released four albums between 1981 and 1986. The album Genie, released in 1986, was co-produced by Petrus and written and produced by multi-instrumentalist Kae Williams II, a member of the funk-soul group Breakwater. The lead vocals are provided by Curtis Hairston, with backing vocals by Ullanda McCullough, guitar by Mike Campbell, and bass by Timmy Allen. Hairston's smooth vocal style, often compared to those of Luther Vandross and Peabo Bryson, later allowed him to achieve solo success with his self-titled album in 1986. The album Genie includes the singles "Genie," "Minutes Away," "(I'm A) Dreamer," "Main Attraction," "On The Shelf," and "Riccochet." "Genie" is a mid-tempo boogie track with that characteristic 808 sound of the 80s and has become a dance floor classic, inspiring many releases of the time. "(I'm A) Dreamer," simply titled "Dreamer" on European editions, became the album's biggest hit, notably thanks to the long vocal remix by Shep Pettibone, whose work with artists like Madonna shaped the sound of modern dance music. Today, BB & Q Band's album Genie is being reissued for the first time, celebrating its anniversary. For its 40th anniversary, an expanded 2LP edition is available. The original 1986 album is included in its entirety, accompanied by a rich selection of bonus tracks. Among these bonuses are nu-disco house remixes of "Genie" and "Dreamer" by Michael Gray, as well as "Riccochet" by Michael Gray & Dr Packer. Also included is the original American 12-inch version of "Dreamer" by Shep Pettibone, the Dutch remix "The Finest Remix" of "Main Attraction" by Ben Liebrand, and the British remix of "Riccochet" by Dancin' Danny D. BB & Q Band - Genie The Expanded Edition is available in a limited edition of 1,000 individually numbered copies on blue vinyl, with all tracks mastered by Ben Liebrand.Buy Genie The Expanded Edition at the best price
