Missa Mater Patris

The new album by the Ensemble Jerycho is dedicated to the work of one of the most famous composers of the Renaissance, Josquin des Prés, in reference to the 500th anniversary of his death, which took place in 2021. The album includes his Missa "Mater Patris," which was already arranged in the 16th century by a Pole - Krzysztof Borek - for the needs of the College of Rorantists in Krakow and received a new name - "Mater Matris." Completed with additional voices, it enriches the collections used during solemn masses, enhanced by a four-part collegiate choir. Compared to other compositions by des Prés, the musical language of the work can be considered anachronistic, as the composer used ancient techniques, particularly in the field of vocal direction. The Ensemble Jerycho presents the music of the Renaissance master in a dynamic, colorful manner, restoring the sound of the piece in its original notation, hence the extension of Borek's version with the movements he had left aside. The ensemble is complemented by other vocal works by des Prés, as well as a motet by Antoine Brumel, which musically inspired the mass.
