Jazz sur Seine

Description

Partner of Miles Davis during the recording of the music for 'Ascenseur pour l'échafaud' in 1957, winner of the Django Reinhardt Prize from the Académie du Jazz the same year, Barney Wilen, the most American of our French jazzmen, pays tribute here to Django and Charles Trenet, an idea from Marcel Romano, who at the time was responsible for commendable jazz initiatives. Benefiting from the presence in Paris of half of the Modern Jazz Quartet (Percy Heath on double bass and Milt Jackson, who here sets aside his vibraphone to take up the piano) and the famous drums of Kenny Clarke, with Gana M'Bow on percussion joining the quartet on "Swing 39" and "Minor Swing", two tracks with African colors, Barney imposes his muscular and lyrical tenor, the repertoire gaining new youth under the traits of bebop.Pierre de Chocqueuse
