L'uomo Femina

Description

Here is an island where gender codes are radically reversed! Here Princess Cretidea reigns as a warrior sovereign over submissive men, condemned to vanity and the artifices of adornment. The sudden arrival of Roberto and Giannino, shipwrecked castaways from a patriarchal world, upends the order in this opera buffa, staging a delightful duel where identities clash and are revealed. More than a historical curiosity, this visionary satire by Baldassare Galuppi and Pietro Chiari holds up a troubling mirror to us, inviting us to decipher, between the notes, the instability of our own identities and the timeless quest for equality. Under the masterful direction of Vincent Dumestre, Le Poème Harmonique breathes new life into this forgotten score, revealing its Baroque brilliance and disarming modernity.
