Concertos pour violon

Description

Baiba Skride pays tribute to Sibelius and Nielsen with the violin concertos of two Scandinavian contemporaries. In 2015, we celebrate the 150th anniversary of the birth of the Finnish composer Jean Sibelius. His exact Scandinavian contemporary, the Danish composer Carl Nielsen, is therefore also celebrating an anniversary this year. This double anniversary inspired violinist Baiba Skride, from the nearby Baltic countries, to record the violin concerto of these two composers, with the naturalness and directness that characterize her. Although composed in a classical structure (three movements Allegro - Adagio - Allegro), Sibelius’s Concerto, premiered in 1911, is a monument of the 20th-century violin repertoire. It becomes a familiar space for Baiba Skride, despite the technical complexity the soloist must overcome. The orchestra, a major presence in this score, is the Tempare Philharmonic Orchestra.
