In recent years, the Orchestre philharmonique de Strasbourg has produced acclaimed recordings for Warner Classics, dedicated to major works by Berlioz and Janacek. Today, the Orchestre philharmonique de Strasbourg performs two of Tchaikovsky's masterpieces, the Symphony No. 5, imbued with fate, and Romeo and Juliet, of boundless passion. Conductor Aziz Shokhakimov, music director of the Alsatian orchestra, is known for his dynamism and ability to shed new light on even familiar scores. Originally from Tashkent, Uzbekistan, and winner in 2016 of the prestigious Salzburg Festival Young Conductors Award, he took up his post in Strasbourg in 2021 — at just 32 years of age. The extension of his contract until 2026 has been announced.
