Named in honor of the Nigerian goddess of the sea, this new album highlights water, the main inspiration of the singer who has been living in Tahiti for 3 years. Ayo has drawn from her new environment in the Pacific to create new compositions, ranging from intimate ballads to rhythmic litanies.
Mami Wata is a travel diary, a testament to the rebirth of a powerful female artist. Nothing is left to chance in her free verse lyrics, nor in her melodies, harmonies, and arrangements, which oscillate precisely at the crossroads of genres. Produced by guitarist Freddy Koella (Bob Dylan, Lhasa…), its acoustic textures warm the heart as much as its lyrics, which speak of spirituality, freedom, and the power of finally being oneself.
