Right from the start, Aymeric Avice's breathy voice evokes reminiscences of free-bop, his phrasing, while the guitars and drums develop a complex texture, more rock-noise for those who enjoy categorization; but precisely what we hear, its intention, escapes those who seek confinement and classification. Here, no one tidies up their room, memories pile up in every corner, and everyone taps into them. - - This quartet without a bass does not lack one: there is always a guitarist to converse with the drums; the bass drum and tom hold the register, but no one keeps score. Thus, the orchestra lacks neither depth nor air. - - Beyond a certain desired and irresistible rumble, the total and mastered improvisation of the ensemble does its work, but a certain form does emerge, resting mainly on the indestructible mutual trust of the four protagonists of this open-air project. If sometimes the trumpet gets muffled, the horizon opens up, allowing streaks of striped light to filter through, for in the distance but also very close, the concern for a certain form occupies each on their own ground, like a sort of ectoplasmic aura escaping from this unique four-sided body that continually shakes up forms. - - The eight chapters of this 'Apocalypse according to Saint Niels,' a mysterious title that likely attributes an intention to guitarist Niels Mestre that he did not have, further speaks to the iconoclastic verve of this group that is decidedly unlike any other. - - Telluric is the word that comes to mind, to conclude. - - As for the origin of the band's name, it comes from the drummer's name: Ziemniak means 'potato' in Polish, and Aymeric marvels at the very existence of potatoes. - - There you have it, we are there.
