"When we started out, the idea for the band was to explore heavy instrumental rock music in the power trio format, with lots of riffs, big riffs! We wanted to create music that you could get lost in, music that allowed you to escape reality and that would carry you away," explains Eirik Krakenes, the main songwriter. In Astrosaur, the Norwegian guitarist (who has performed live with Leprous and Ihsahn) is joined by bassist Steinar Glas and drummer Jonathan Eikum, combining recognizable elements from numerous genres such as post-rock, doom metal, psychedelic rock (stoner / desert), and progressive metal. With their third full-length album "Portals", Astrosaur has delivered an incredibly diverse, musically challenging, and satisfying experience, demonstrating that this band is greater than the sum of its parts. Across five tracks and 48 minutes, the band utilizes the best traits of the aforementioned genres to take you on a sonic journey into the deepest caverns of space and time.
