The album is called Superspectives but it could also have been titled "Who cares!". A good starting point to understand the joyful freedom of Astonvilla's new album, a record and 11 tracks to remind us of the essentials: the importance of keeping the naivety of childhood, the fire of adolescence, and dreams that we fiercely refuse to put away. This record is nothing short of a miracle precisely because it doesn't care about posing, an existential album that takes things back to the beginning, as close to humanity as possible, to its pulses of life, love, and sometimes excess.
Astonvilla, the emblematic band of the French rock scene, is therefore back and Superspectives will delight long-time fans with pop anthems like "Saison 2", an ode to laziness with a sensual mood and sumptuous strings, "Julia" and its Love/Destruction theme, or "Les gamins" written by Fred Nevche. But it is also the album of all possibilities for the trio, of which we hadn't heard from since Joy Machine 10 years ago.
After 30 years of experiences, Astonvilla delivers an album full of new sap, between risk-taking and melodic obviousness, a record that shakes things up and makes you want to sway while awakening the flame with its cash poetry and borderline love stories. And let's not talk about rebirth to Fred. When mentioned, he smiles, reminding us that his life has been nothing but resilience since he understood that he would have to cope with a disability that has become his engine and his strength. The one that drives him to inspire and exhale existence, with full lungs, without filter, playing with obstacles.
