Description

On the occasion of the Year of Vietnam in France, we are reviving the improbable tunes of Indochinese crooners from the Roaring Twenties and other Vietnamese folk songs in a unique CD of 16 remastered tracks. It was necessary to make the voices of these forgotten artists heard, who had the misfortune of living through a pivotal period in Vietnamese history, between the colonial era and the war we all know. A restoration steeped in nostalgia, from the folkloric Ao The Tham Tang to the comparsita Duong Vê, a sentimental little song by Hoang Trong, via Noi Long, a lament sung by the crooner Ngoc Bao, and this moving excerpt from the Annamite poem Kim-Van-Kieu by Nguyen Du. This collection invites you to travel back in time, moving from folk songs of peasant essence (Son Nu Ca) or patriotic ones (Ai Vê Que Toi) to “fashionable” tracks, often inspired by the hits of singing stars from the cinema, such as Joséphine Baker, Rina Ketty and especially Tino Rossi.
