Description

New album by composer and percussionist Asher Gamedze, "Constitution." This expansive double album is the follow-up to Gamedze's Turbulence and Pulse from 2023 (IARC0057), and his first with The Black Lungs. The album – recorded in a single day at Sound and Motion Studios in Cape Town – is an exploration of the possibilities of autonomous constitution within and through polyrhythmic and modal music. On Constitution, the power of questioning, the possibility of an improvised response, and the celebration of being together do not exist in the solo but in the group, the ensemble. Here, The Black Lungs collectively explore and deconstruct the conceptual, tonal, and atonal possibilities of themes that draw from both ancient and new dreams – curious and instantaneous, melancholic and emerging.
