These words, taken from the original notes on the sleeve of Ary Lobo's first record, Forró con Ary Lobo, recorded in 1958, are by no means exaggerated. Originally from Belém do Pará in the north of the country, Ary Lobo moved to Rio de Janeiro in October 1955. As his reputation grew, he was signed by RCA Victor in June 1956. The music scene in Rio began to hear about this newcomer who embodied the personality of a northeastern singer with deep roots in the Afro-Brazilian heritage. He kicked off the new decade by recording what many describe as his best work, Aqui mora o ritmo, which was released in 1960. Ary Lobo recorded an album a year until 1966, when he released Quem É O Campeão?, his last album for RCA Victor. All these recordings are wonderful journeys that take the listener through the different regions of Brazil; in addition to philosophy, science, politics, and religion, he enriches the entire travel experience with an in-depth look at the traditions of a Brazilian society moving towards modernity. Among the artists who emerged from Pará in the 1950s, Ary Lobo achieved a level of national fame unique for his time.
