Was It Always This Way

Description

Real Numbers from Minneapolis returns with a new full-length album, the beautifully pop-tastic "Was It Always This Way." Ten songs full of anticipation and enthusiasm, blending hope and despair, the future and the past, all set to the sounds of British indie pop from the late '80s/early '90s. While they clearly pick up where their 2021 EP "Brighter Then" left off, this time the focus is on layered guitars designed to complement the nostalgic and melancholic tracks with a sparkling admiration. "Was It Always This Way" refines the already striking songs of Real Numbers, polishing the tracks into an album of dazzling perfection that recalls '90s predecessors like Field Mice and St Christopher, as well as other pop musicians like Ducks Ltd, Chime School, and The Umbrellas. Highlights of the album such as "Darling" and "Never Never Again" show that Real Numbers remains true to their influences, paying particular attention to the past while confidently and stylishly steering their art toward the future.
