After 15 years of exploration ranging from doom metal to psychedelic rock, via grunge and art rock, these pioneers of progressive heavy are setting out to conquer new creative heights. With ‘Songs to Sun’, leader Igor Sydorenko and his bandmates propelled the first part of their ambitious album trilogy into the rankings of the best releases of 2025. Barely a year later, they begin a new phase with ‘Songs to Moon’. The ‘Songs to...’ trilogy reveals every facet of STONED JESUS. Darker and more introspective, ‘Songs to Moon’ emerges from the imposing shadow of its predecessor with "Under the Skin", a powerful and massive post-metal track that plunges the album into darkness, like a setting sun. The existential veil that hung over ‘Songs to Sun’ continues to weigh on Sydorenko. "Still I’m falling down / From high above," he sings with serene detachment, at the heart of the catchy doomgaze textures skillfully woven into the first single, "Velvet". The progressive mini-opera "Jackal" reveals the band at its most theatrical. Placed right in the middle of the tracklist (and marking precisely the halfway point of the trilogy), the melancholic "Syzgy" blends a melody from each ‘Songs to…’ album to create their very first instrumental track. But even on this album steeped in darkness and melancholy, STONED JESUS refuses to be confined to a single atmosphere. In the vein of ‘Led Zeppelin III’, Opeth’s ‘Damnation’ or Alice In Chains’ ‘Jar of Flies’, ‘Songs to Moon’ strips itself back in its final stretch, leaving only acoustic guitar and Sydorenko’s hushed voice. "And when the sun goes down / It brightens up my mood." As the dreamlike despair of "Window In My Room" fades in the face of the raw realization of the closing track, "One More Empty Day", STONED JESUS returns to earth, weary but endowed with a wisdom beyond its years.
