Pure Confusion

Description

Pure Confusion is the seventh album by King Ayisoba, a major Ghanaian musician, set to be released on September 4, 2026, and produced by Adrian Sherwood of the On-U Sound label. Ayisoba is one of the most unique artists from Ghana, known for his mastery of the kologo, a traditional two-string instrument made from a gourd and goat skin. He also uses three different voices, including that of his grandfather, blending traditional music, hypnotic rhythms, spirituality, and social commentary. The album emerged from a collaboration with Adrian Sherwood, initiated in 2017 and realized during live recording sessions in a single afternoon at Sherwood's studio in Ramsgate. The producer brings his dub techniques and electronic processing while maintaining the spontaneous and vibrant energy of Ayisoba's performances. Several guests contribute to the record, including Doug Wimbish, Ivan Hussey, Alex White, Alan Glenn, and Ghanaian collaborator Ayuune Sule. Through his songs, Ayisoba addresses issues of corruption and land ownership, illness and prejudice, as well as open-mindedness, spirituality, and ancestral transmission. The album is part of a career spanning over twenty years, which began with Modern Ghanaians in 2006, earning him three Ghana Music Awards and international recognition. With Pure Confusion, King Ayisoba continues to transform the traditions of northern Ghana into contemporary, powerful, spiritual, and deeply engaged music. The album also includes the bonus track "No Tradition, No Africa," featuring Grammy-nominated Ghanaian singer Rocky Dawuni.
