Cellist Julian Schwarz makes his debut on Delos with an unusual album featuring the complete works for cello by Arthur Foote, including the first commercial recording of the concerto. As the only composer from the Boston School to have been fully educated in the United States, Arthur Foote can be labeled as the first truly American talent. Although inexplicably underperformed, even ignored, his refined sense of melody and lush harmonic language make his music enchanting. Foote composed several pieces for cello and piano, which Julian Schwarz performs here with his partner and pianist Marika Bournaki, internationally renowned conductor Gerard Schwarz, and the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra.
