It was a masterstroke when lead singer and bassist Lee Payne announced that Harry "The Tyrant" Conklin, who had moved to Greece, would be joining his band Cloven Hoof. The former Jag Panzer singer was the perfect replacement for Russ North, considered by fans to be the ultimate singer of Cloven Hoof – unfortunately, he is no longer with us. As a result, the reactions to the band's first album with Harry Conklin on vocals have been remarkable. "Heathen Cross" was released by High Roller Records in 2024. It is now followed by Cloven Hoof's tenth full studio album titled "Never A Prophet In Your Own Land." Once again, "The Tyrant's" vocal performance is world-class. Lee Payne smiles wryly: "All the praise goes to Harry. We are truly lucky to have such a brilliant singer and leader in the band." Continuity is important for every band, and Cloven Hoof has had its share of lineup changes in the past. That is not the case this time, as the bassist explains: "We have the same stable lineup as on 'Heathen Cross,' I’m happy to say. The voice of the one and only Harry Conklin, guitars by Luke Hatton and Chris Coss. Ash Baker on drums. Luke, Chris, and Ash have been with Cloven Hoof for over ten years now; they know their roles inside out. I've been in the band since 1979 on bass from the very beginning, so I should have an idea of what I'm doing by now (laughs)." "'Never A Prophet In Your Own Land' is actually not a direct sequel to 'Heathen Cross,'" Payne continues. "'Heathen Cross' had its own dark, heavy atmosphere.
