Naoto Dance

Description

“Naoto Dance” is a composition by saxophonist Benoit BAUD. It is a “nod” to his son Naoto BAUD IWASHITA, born in October 2019, and was partly written during the second lockdown, an ideal time to fully discover what the magic of a young child is. Benoit wanted to organize this recording session to set some of his compositions to music, mark a period of his life, and relaunch the group, which will celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2026. The repertoire brings together nine of his compositions with borderless colors. Its message is generous, sincere, in search of freedom and sharing. Its open, committed and poetic language transports you into a contrasting universe that invites each person’s soul to enrich this adventure. MINIATUS QUARTET was formed in Lyon in 2006 from the meeting of Benoît Baud, saxophonist, Basile Mouton, double bassist, Stéphane Foucher, drummer, and Frédéric d’Œlsnitz, pianist. Through their shared sense of music, the connection is made naturally. A musical impulse is given and the quartet quickly develops a strong musical identity. The group plays free, organic music, drawn from the roots of American jazz, tinged with post-Coltrane free jazz and driven by the sound of the current New York scene. From their repertoire of original compositions emerge aesthetics that also refer to pop, hip-hop, and even ethnic music. The music of MINIATUS QUARTET comes to life in the moment, expression and the unknown.
