Description

In 2021, Blodtår presented an eponymous EP steeped in black metal mysticism. The following full-length album, "Det förtegna förflutna" (2023), revealed a project capable of refined structure and melodic discipline without sacrificing intensity. Today, on their third album, the Stockholm-based duo ventures even further. While previous works balanced a wooded atmosphere with icy mastery, "Monark" is driven by something more volatile. Conceived in the wake of a personal tragedy, the album took shape with uncompromising urgency. The opening track, "Blodtår," was born directly from this moment, setting the tone for a work that traverses overwhelming spiritual pain towards a fragile yet undeniable light. Musically, the folk-infused melodic language remains central—especially in the first half—but now intertwines with passages evoking older, more archaic currents reminiscent of the early days of Enslaved and Falkenbach. Nordic-accented motifs add to the band's established Scandinavian melancholy, while the second half explores brighter tonal shifts, though never without scars. Beginning in darkness and ending in illumination, "Monark" traces with unwavering honesty recurring cycles of mental collapse and resurgence.
